Carl Cox Gu38: Black Rock Desert

I have followed dance music since it's early days and globul underground are a godsend! imagine life without them? I agree with other reviewers that recently they have been a little off the boil, but always interesting. Interesting is not what house music is about though, its about having a laugh, getting a grove going and being unrelenting once you have it. I've always respected coxy but never really been a fan of techno. He seems to have slowed it down a bit though here, more tech house than tech-no. The result is a funky, frosty, bassey at times scary couple of hours. When he hits track 6 (guy J) he splits you wide open and then he just does not let you go. Brilliant, epic set. Up there with Taipei, ibiza, toronto and san francisco. Coxy give us some more!

Now That's What I Call Music Vol.75

Two weeks ahead of release, the compilers have come up with a very strong and topical track listing including 22 of the 14 March 2010 top 40 singles and 7 of the top 10. They have anticipated 2 of the 3 top 10 new entries from Gabriella Cilmi (On a mission) and McLean (My name). With past number ones including Iyaz, Owl City and Joe McElderry and versions of 'Don't Stop Believin' by both Glee Cast and Journey, Now 75 is a terrific buy for anyone interested in Britsh chart music in the first quarter of 2010.

The Annual 2010

It's been 10 years since I last purchased a MOS annual. After going to Uni, I found dance music incredibly commercial and boring. However something convinced me to purchase this annual and I am so glad that I did. I've always enjoyed dance music but I don't go out looking for the underground sounds away from the mainstream. I like my dance to be accessible, just not cheesy and this album very much hints of the classic 98/99 trance vibe that pulled me in. With disc one I find myself floating away to Cafe del Mar and it leaves me feeling very nostalgic. Things kick up a little more in disk two and certainly more lively by disk 3! Disk 3 would be my least favourite but that's just down to personal preference, it's just a little to heavy in places.

For the first time since the millennium edition, I'm excited about dance music again. If, like me, you're clubbing highlights were the end of the last century and based on the euphoric trance sounds and you have become disconcerted over the years that it has been pushed out for a more "commercial vibe", this album takes a step in the right direction to returning to that form.

Classics sounds with a contemporary twist. And it works so well.

I bought this for my other half, who is a fan of the 80's and she absolutely loves it. She said it contained all the songs she remembered and a few she had forgotten, it is now a permanent fixture in the CD player in the car.
