Joe Bonamassa
Notes from a review copy, 2010-03-04 I know amazonistas don't like reviews done prior to an album's release but I just have to share this one with you. THIS IS GREAT! Album of the year material already.
I must admit I thought that Joe's prolific career so far may have hit the buffers by now but no chance. Apparently Joe went to Greece to record most of this and there are a couple of tracks which could have been cheesily "ethnic" but they survive with flying colours. There's no attempt to go all Buena Vista Social Club on this album, any Greek influences are firmly placed within a blues context.
On the whole this album is very much in the regular Bonamassa blues rock vein but with those extra touches we have an enervating and exciting new experience.
One track that doesn't (surprisingly?) work for me is the workout with BB King which in my view is another of the great man's duets by numbers (U2, Clapton etc). I know these guys go back a long way and on any other day this would perhaps be a great track but on this album, somehow, it just doesn't fit in.
There's the famous cheese shop sketch on Monty Python where John Cleese proclaims "Shut that bloody bazouki up!"
Well he wouldn't be saying that on listening to this album

Snow Patrol
the best of snow patrol up to now, 2010-01-31 With most CDs especially doubles like this one, you play them and only the most popular that have been released as singles are played, the rest are fast forwarded. My introduction to snow patrol as an AOP was when I had a courtesy car and the previous occupier had left a snow patrol cd in the player. I played it every time I drove for 3 days, and loved the sound. When I decided to buy this copy I was surprised how many were familiar. Out of every track I think there is only 2 that dont appeal to me. Each one is different from the rest, music is great and so different from the rubbish being churned out at the moment. no hesitation in giving it 5* and recommending it to all ages who appreciate good music and sensible lyrics.

Hollies
mr cooper is not a hollies fan, 2010-01-27 well mr fredric a cooper, if you are a true fan you would know all of the hollies material is ledgendary, the band has moved with the times unlike you, they are not a tribute band as they have 2 original members the new members do a fantastic job in re creating a special hollies sound,i have seen the new version of the hollies with my 2 girls who are 9 and 12, 14 concerts in the last 3 years, they enjoy the sounds as much as i do. peter howarth does a fantastic job as lead singer , the guitars sound are as near to the sixties sound as much as tecnology will allow, the keyboards do the same, they have no fancy gimmics most artists use on stage its just back to basics, just like the sixties, the album is good news for fans as there is so many tracks, so its value for money, we will be seeing all the band again in liverpool with my youngest daughter once again taking them all an easter egg, so we will see you then ,grahame frodsham and barbara ,christina and olivia hunt. uk.

Noisettes
How’s this for a reinvention: Wild Young Hearts debuts a very different Noisettes from the band we met on 2007’s punky What’s The Time Mr Wolf? Primarily, the London trio have realised what a voice they have in vocalist Shingai Shoniwa, whose smoky croon resembles a young Billie Holliday, and frankly, feels a little wasted on ragged garage-rock numbers. If Wild Young Hearts is a slightly more mainstream-sounding offering than its predecessor, though, it also wears its new sense of ambition on its sleeve. Most new listeners will have been pulled in by “Don’t Upset The Rhythm”, a smart disco-pop number with shades of Tom Tom Club’s ...
A must have, 2010-02-21 An excellent album with a great variety of soulful and funky songs, the singer has a fantastic voice and it gets better with each listen, highly recommended

An old hippie says "Wow! Far Out Man!" Brilliant :-), 2010-02-24 Confession: I am 53 years old and love Fairport Convention, (early) Steeleye Span, the Oyster Band, the fabulous Trees (etc. etc. you get the picture) as well as Van Der Graaf Generator and King Crimson (so I am NOT a dyed-in-the-wool folky).
I heard the previous album (Van Occu-thingy) and was not terribly impressed - it seemed like a pastiche of 70s stuff - Fleetwood Mac or whatever.
So I didn't buy this immediately. But various reviews suggested that this was something different - although there seems to be a great divide between "This is really rather fine" and "What a let down after the last one". So, calculating that as I was "let down" by the last one - there was a chance that there is something in this one.
And yes. After two listenings (straight after each other), this is a delicious CD.
My wife, on hearing it, assumed it was a UK band from Somerset (or similar), and was rather surprised to discover this ancient Olde English Folke Music was coming from Texas.
Superb musicianship, ranging from electric guitar, through flute, harpsichord to bassoon flows gently through these pastoral tunes (and the drummer really understands how to provide a sympathetic backing to this style of music, unlike the AWFUL drummer who I saw with J.Tull last year).
To be fair to some of the comments, the tracks are a bit similar. But that is the way it goes if you are playing folk music. There is not a lot of loud riffing, or rap, or funk, or whatever else is mistaken for music these days.

Andrew Lloyd Webber
astounding, 2010-03-09 I saw this at the Adelphi last night (8/3/10), 3 years to the day since my first ever viewing of Phantom of the Opera. As a sequel, I was half excited, half-worried, as I didn't want the magic of the original to be ruined, but Lloyd-Webber has done an amazing job. The music is spectacular, and the ending is truly beautiful. Christine's voice in this is a little shrill for my liking, but Ramin Karimloo as the phantom gives a truly stunning vocal.
I will say though, don't buy if you're planning on seeing she show and don't want spoilers: the lyrics spell it all out. Wait until you've seen it.
Best tracks: Till I Hear You Sing, Beneath a Moonless Sky, The Beauty Underneath, Devil Take the Hindmost

Bombay Bicycle Club
Album of the year ?, 2010-02-01 Loving this lately - probably my favourite album of 2009 (only maybe The XX can top it) for this ageing listener. The vocalist is a bit of an acquired taste but other than that this does some pretty inventive things within the potentially stale indie rock field. Reminds me of British Sea Power (without the delightfully strange lyrics) more than anybody else. Nice unfussy production lets the music shine through. Highly recommended.
