This is a VOCAL album. Some of the soundtracks sound a little arificial, but this is such a MONSTER work - it would cost a fortune and a year to arrange and record it all with musicians to match the vocals. The Voices are AMAZING, and the groove on many of the tracks more than makes up for any weak parts. What is really impressive is that if you are broad enough to know your classics and your soul, you will appreciate how Handel's work has been mapped into the soul genre. Clever! As for the Tour de Force, the "Hallelujah Chorus", it is just how church should be on a Sunday morning. A Truly Uplifting Groove. Yes, I recommend it!

Officially my favourite album of all time! VERY clever arranging, I'm very impressed! It's so strange to hear Handel's Messiah in this way, but it works so well! Each song has a real groove to it and the vocals are incredible!

Some people in the other reviews refer to weak points particularly in the accompaniment but it was made in the 90's so they've used synths that we've moved on from now. If you listen to the overall brilliant musical creation that it is, it won't at all spoil it for you.

Stevie Wonder and Take 6's rendition of 'O Thou That Tellest Good Tidings to Zion' is AWEsome for the a cappella vocal harmonies! Pure harmonic bliss.

If you love harmonies, also listen to 'But Who May Abide the Day of His Coming?' when the choir come in.

As for 'Every Valley Shall Be Exalted', all I can say is, wait for it.... (you'll see what i mean)

The Overture is a genius medley of different styles of music.

This album is so full of genius musical moments, a groove you can't not dance to, and vocal quality and harmonies that will make you melt with musical joy! I'm sure it's got Handel turning in his grave (in a good way!).

AMAZING!! buy it buy it buy it!!

This is the best version of the Hallelujah Chorus EVER! The first time I heard it on MTV or somewhere years ago I nearly fell out of my chair. It still affects me emotionally to the point where I start crying. IT WILL KNOCK YOUR SOCKS OFF, even if you aren't religious - and I'm an atheist. But the SINGING!!! As a former singer, I am blown away by this.

For those familiar with a classical performance of Handel's Messiah, this rendition may come as a bit of a shock. It comes out of an ambitiously conceived project and delivers an undoubtedly soulful collection of pieces. But it is a collection of pieces rather than a coherent whole, because each piece was performed and recorded in different locations by different groups of artists. The liklihood is that, like me, some pieces will really resonate with you and others will leave you untouched. In Handel's orchestration, the music lifts the scriptures. In some of these pieces the scripture is drowned, rather.
