Formed in Germany in 1994, this industrial rock six-piece gained notoriety when they were found to be fave raves of the Columbine High School killers. Mutter is the studio follow-up to 1998s platinum-selling Sehnsucht, and a very menacing beast it is too. Vocalist Till Lindermann delivers growling German lyrics over a melange of explosive guitar, pared-down bass and juddering drums. But these 11 tracks are not all nu-metal stomp rock, as every so often the aural assault is broken by quivering flights of fragile pop melody. Songs like Spieluhr and Mutter are reminiscent of early 1980s synth-pop merchants such as OMD, proving that under the Teutonic Nine Inch ...
Total perfection, 2010-08-09 Rammstein have not released a weak album, but Mutter might just shade it as their best work. It's one of those album's where every song is excellent, and you will never mutter (excuse the pun) the word 'album filler' when listening to this masterpiece. This is the example of a great band producing a great album purely for the listener, or more importantly for a live audience ... and not disappearing up their own backsides with self indulgence. Just to give a quick personal opinion of the track list:
Mein Herz Brennt - Intro at it's best. Great track in it's own right, but you are just being warmed up.
Links 2 3 4 - Here we go. Links is a classic and for anyone who has seen this live, they are privileged. If you haven't seen it live, go to a Rammstein gig ... or buy Volkerball.
Sonne - Chorus is epic. Small wonder than Rammstein are still using this as an encore.
Ich Will - Arguably Rammstein's finest. I'm not arguing.
Feuer Frei - Stop it! If you have this CD in your car, press eject ... hang on, don't bother, you already have a speeding ticket. The live performance of this is phenomenal.
Mutter - is this the weakest track? No, they have just slowed things down a bit.
Spieluhr - great chorus, picks the pace up again for the awesome ...
Zwitter - I love this track, I guess everyone else does.
Rein Raus - they keep on coming. Rein Raus is a stormer and you will find yourself singing along to your iPod whilst everyone looks at you as if you've lost the plot - Rein ... Raus!
Adios - another cracking piece of music. Hard, fast, no nonsense, just great music.
Nebel - what more can I say, almost like the perfect outro, possibly required to bring the listener's heart beat down.
Buy the album.

argh! Argh!! AAAARRRRRGGGHHHHH!!, 2010-08-06 The title of this review is what I like to yell whenever I remember this album. Apparently this is not socially acceptable behaviour, but, like all rational adults, I blame the music.
This album is ridiculously fantastic, and it's only troubled at the top of my favourite album list because of the splendour that Rammstein have delivered since. This was their opening statement, their battle cry before unleashing such monsters as Engel from Sehnsucht and Links 2,3,4 from Mutter. It is raw, it is brutal and, boy, is it magnificent.
The guitars are ferocious from the offset, but there is a definite groove to the music that was labelled Tanz-Metal (dance metal) by the German press. Till's vocals are as always a highlight, beautifully mixed with Flake's massive keyboards and the general intensity of the music.
Seriously, there is no better experience than listening to a Rammstein album in my book, and this is probably my favourite album to listen to, due to it's sheer ferocity. But then there's Sehnsucht.... or Mutter.... the debate rages on.

Brilliant..., 2010-04-08 As with all the previous albums, Rammstein's latest album is just brilliant. Some interesting pieces and once again they manage to be controversial which just makes everything that much better - as far as I know, some artwork and one song had to be changed on the German release. But the controversial aspect doesn't make the music, so, from that perspective, the songs are musically great - some new ideas which work really well and some really nice "mellow" songs which you'd never expect possible by these guys - just beautiful. I must admit, I did need to listen to this album a few times to get used to a different sound (in my opinion this album is quite different to the others) and, at the moment, it is my favourite one of their albums (although, with Rammstein, you can't have a favourite - all albums are fantastic).
If you're new to these guys, don't start with this though - ease your way in with Mutter, then you'll be hooked and get the rest!

Rammstein live - Superb, 2010-07-03 This album is a live registration of a Rammstein concert. I've been to their concert last month (2010 june) and was really impressed by their sound and show. As such i bought this Volkerball live CD + DVD and this is a real good registration of a live performance. So i'm very happy with it.

Their best album yet, 2010-03-20 Brilliant album. In my view 'Ich Tu Dir Weh' is their best song ever. 'Du Hast' seems to be everyone's favourite but I don't think so. Every album they do seems to be better than the last. Hope it continues. They're such an underrated band.

Rammstein are incredible!!, 2010-03-16 This CD of 'Rammstein live' is beyond words! They reproduce their music note perfect when playing live. Till's voice is a phenomena all of its own. I have never been to a live concert of Rammstein's (yet), but this CD just transports you there with the band and the fans!! If you love this band, as I do, I recommend Live Aus Berlin to you. As my motto says RAMMSTEIN ROCKS!!!

They should, of course, be laughable: a bunch of stocky Germans with a penchant for pyromania and a wardrobe straight out of a downtown S&M bar. Yet somehow, Rammstein's very Teutonic brand of doom-mongering has struck a chord with listeners, perhaps grateful that Germany's latest sensations are not merely another Scorpions. Instead, the music is an unmistakeably martial--some would say fascistic--form of industrial-metal, all punishing rhythms and grand, Wagnerian choruses; while the band's decision to fuse their assault with the arpeggiated textures of trance and techno--while hardly unique (think KMFDM or Nine Inch Nails)--has undoubtedly lent their sound a more robust...
Love at First Listen!, 2010-01-18 Unlike a couple of other Rammstein albums (namely Herzeleid and Reise, Reise), the second it started playing I thought wow this is what I was missing! - I loved it instantly. Infact I've only thus far listened to it a couple of times but I don't think there's a single track on there I don't like. Excellent stuff.

Great introduction to Rammstein, 2010-07-06 Probably their most immediatelty accessible record, for non-German speakers anyway.
Also very good for the ipod when on a bike.

Leftovers from Reise, Reise?! Pfft!!, 2010-01-19 I had to write something on this album just because it's had such a bad press! I have to admit it was with some trepidation that I purchased this album and it was the next to last of Rammstein's because I had read such awful reviews of it. But after listening to it I'm in shock that it could have had a single bad review, it has so many beautiful and exquisite songs on it - maybe that's why, some Rammstein fans want every track to be a headbanger like 'Mein Herz Brennt' or 'Feuer Frei'?! Personally whilst I love those tracks, I love to see a variation in styles, I like to hear and be surprised by what a band can achieve and this album really doesn't disappoint! I'm really not a fan of Reise, Reise but I love Rosenrot so no way would I ever consider it leftovers from that! For me this album along with Mutter and Sehnsucht is my favourite Rammstein. (And dare I say it for fear of being lynched, that 'Stirb Nicht Vor Mir' doesn't offend my ears either!)
