ON THE ITEM ITSELF:
I bought this item as a Double Album on Vinyl... and might I say that it is absolutely stunning. The Artwork is absolutely fantastic when you get it on a huge album like this, it NEEDS to be presented like this. Its a great artwork and as an album... the vinyls are the way to show it. Sure it is more expensive, but the sound is glorious and it is something more to treasure that a little plastic CD that will be forgotten in a CD collection. Whenever you play this album on vinyl, you feel a sense of occasion.. just like with every vinyl album. The time is JUST for that piece of art.
ON THE ALBUM:
Unbelievably underrated actually. What we all see in reviews... they quote the history, they quote personal life and then RELATE it to the music. Now I might be a bit messed up, but is that not wrong? What actually matters is the music that has been made. It is unique, it is an experience, just like Jackson albums "hadn't" been since Dangerous. I would agree. This album has some superb numbers that work well together. Some superb vocal performances, with Butterflies being unbelievable.
Divided into 2 Parts.. From Track 1-8 is one half of the album which could've worked a self contained album, which is classic great michael doing great work.. but THEREAFTER, we see a completely NEW Jackson. It is very different after Speechless, we have a few ballads which creates a new style for the artist. He has never made anything like You Are My Life or Don't Walk Away. Privacy is a good listen, maybe not as strong as the others but it still has great style with Slash on guitar which has worked on EVERY song that he has worked with on.
The last 4 tracks then implement this new Michael Jackson style into kind of recreating genius that he made in the 80s.
Cry is Man in the Mirror
The Lost Children is Dirty Diana (which sounds wrong, but the style isn't so offensive as people suggest)
Threatened is NOT A THRILLER REHASH... it is actually the song Bad.. and when we realise it we can actually picture a great music video for that.
Whatever Happens is quite possibly the albums greatest work. It would've been a hit if released as the very first single. The vocals are staggeringly amazing and the guitar playing works excellently.
Give this a listen with an open mind. Understand what was made before you try and "compare" it to Thriller (which was not his greatest work). It is great that not many compared it to Off The Wall, because so many people are afraid that this album brings some those days back to the present.

Jackson is just stunning on this record. The versatility and beauty of his voice is outstanding, particularly on 'Lady of my Life' and 'Human Nature'. When people describe records as "classic" they are mostly wrong. But THRILLER really is a true classic.

What ever you think of Michael Jackson as a person, when ever you come to his music it's amazing and this album somes that up. Full of classics and brillilant and diffrent songs. You all probably know the top ones like Smooth Criminal (one of the best songs ever), Bad and Dirty Diana. But one that stands out that probably dosn't get enough play time, is Liberian Girl. This is not far off a Greatest Hits, 8 songs are classics the other 3 are still good songs. A must have album.

Simply Love Michael Jackson. I am rediscovering him now since his untimely death and as I, too, am older, can really appreciate what talent we have lost. I still think this was one of his best albums, but Micahel Jackson cannot, in my opinion, be beaten for his imaginative, emotionally-charged, lyrics and productions.

Great mastering on this CD!, 2010-05-14
The dynamic range on this album is fantastic! I have 4 other MJ/J5 compilations: "The Best of Michael Jackson and The Jackson 5ive", "Soulsation!", "Jackson 5 the Ultimate Collection" and "Michael Jackson Anthology" and this CD beats them all. I compared the dynamic range using the TT-DR meter, and this CD wins out on every track (with the exception of one track: "I'll Be There"). Highly recommended!

Ok maybe I am a bit biased being such a humungous Michael Jackson fan but this album is great, yes it is another greatest hits album really and if you've got all of his other albums then you will have these songs a trillion times over. I love 'This is It' and the planet Earth poem which were both completely unheard of before this album was released. This is a good companion to have with the This it film dvd, plus a bonus that they released it on vinyl, nice addition to your collection.
