Michael Jackson
Given the pace of Michael Jackson's post-Thriller release schedule, it's striking that Off the Wall appeared between two albums--Destiny (1978) and Triumph (1980)--which the twentysomething phenomenon made with his brothers. Aided by richly detailed but not overdone production, Off the Wall defined how much Michael might do. Tracks such as "Don't Stop 'til You Get Enough", "Rock with You", "Burn this Disco Out" and the title track not only consolidated his dancefloor power, but showed just how soulful and varied his vocals could get on up-tempo material. Artistic role models such as James Brown and Jackie Wilson echo through the mixes, b...
best jackson album, 2009-06-28 This is my all time favourite Michael Jackson album - IMO it is far better than Bad or Thriller, and definetely better than his later stuff. It is how I will remember him, not the tortured soul he was at the end..

Michael Jackson
"We wanted a tough album," producer Quincy Jones recalls in a bonus interview on this special edition of Bad. Though the 1987 blockbuster would appear to be Michael Jackson's most personal statement to date--nine of its 11 cuts were written solely by him--its appeal also rested more on craft than the idiosyncratic art of Thriller and Off the Wall. At the same time, most of Bad has aged well in spite of its digital brittleness and MIDI treatments of gems such as Jimmy Smith's organ solo on the title track. While the third best of his first three Epic solo discs, Bad carries a lot of what people love about Jackson's music. This disc also b...
forever a must in any great album collection. perfect set., 2009-06-27 Mickael has died and i see myself getting my hands on any of the albums i still own and it is this one and his last " best of " to date. i had Dangerous as a teen. no longer in my possession, shame...
BAD is undeniably perfect and had me so excited just listening to it all over again. i remember that Liberian Girl gives me shivers and still does.
last night we spent the evening watching his videos on MTV and the likes, they all played his videos and that is when you realize that he was absolutely amazing and to think that he wrote the majority of all these classic old tracks is unbelievable.
i am incredibly sad and as i always listened to Beat it and smooth criminal any time i needed a lift and a beat, i shall make an effort to explore more of his catalogue as he had so much to offer indeed, and he did..
Mickael, may you find peace now and your family. i love you.

La Roux
With commercially successful singles "Quicksand" and "In For The Kill" (latterly remixed by dubstep luminary Skream), red-headed, pale-skinned Brixton girl Elly Jackson and her "invisible" co-producer Ben Langmaid irrevocably established their love of 80s pop. This debut album continues the duo’s foray into euphoric retro-dance, nodding non-ironically to the likes of The Eurythmics, Depeche Mode, Heaven 17 and The Human League while remaining impressively contemporary. Opening with a string of sassy tunes--the buzzing "Tigerlily", the synth-heavy "Quicksand" and the slick and fiery "Bulletproof"--it’s apparent that La Roux have colour, class and confidence in spades. ...
a classic already!!, 2009-07-02 La Roux is an instant hit for me with singles- Goin In For The Kill,Quicksand and BulletProof each being classics in my opinion.
this album is part of the current trend of new wave 80's elcetropop set by Lady Gaga with her stunning album-The Fame.
La Roux takes a different perspective of the 80's style electronic sound with that europop feel about it that makes this classic British.
i think this is one of the best debuts and artist could ever have, with a sound familiar to early Cyndi Lauper meets the Human League.
this album is completely different and a unique gem this year and along with offerings by Lady Gaga,Lily Allen,Florence & The Machine and Little Boots, La Roux is definately an artist that is growing with acclaim.
a must have item!!

Paolo Nutini
Fans of Paolo Nutini’s debut album, These Streets might raise an eyebrow or two at this sophomore release. Produced by Ethan Johns (Kings Of Leon), Sunny Side Up features an eclectic and "rougher" range of songs that set it somewhat apart from its slick predecessor. Recorded in Ireland, Wales, New York, LA and the UK, Nutini--backed by his band The Vipers--tackles folk, reggae, soul and rock, with varying results. The Motown-esque "Coming Up Easy", the ballad "Worried Man" and the sea-shanty "Growing Up Beside You" are shining examples of Nutini's erudite songwriting skills, as is the charming, Dylan-esque "Tricks Of The Trade". But songs like "Pencil ...
Inspirational, 2009-07-03 What a eclectic mixture of music, how good will he be in his 30's if he is already producing music like this? Listening to the lyrics shows that he also values the important things in life. Already looking forward to the next release.

Kasabian
Kasabian arrived with a bang and a half early this century, brandishing a slew of ever more dynamite singles and a rigorously assembled debut album that straddled dancefloors and festival fields with monumental ease and a glint in its bloodshot eyes. It was all very post-Xtrmntr, whilst avoiding much of the seriousness that could have entailed. Whether anyone expected them to chase Oasis’ coat-tails with such keenness is by the by now; they have since been ordained as an anthemic rock colossus of the UK rock scene. That has almost certainly gone to their heads and as years and albums pass they move further away from their original chemical reaction and into att...
Best Album of 2009 so far, 2009-06-22 After the first listen, I could pick out a couple of stand out tracks; after the second listen, i picked out a few more, after the third listen the whole thing is just genius. The first five songs are all killer tracks (maybe not the drum n bass one as it's like an interlude). 6 and 7 are a bit of a mellow break from the upbeat tracks but they work. Vlad the Impaler is back to nodding the head and waving the arms (get loose, get loose), ladies and gentlemen is laidback hangover music and the last 3 tracks flow nicely to the end. Kasabian have come back with a fantastic third album after an 'okay' second and an extraordinary brilliant debut. Not afraid to experiment with different sounds, beats, guitars and vocals, this band has got the balance and sound spot on. Buy it and buy it today.

Michael Jackson
Michael Jackson was still going for pop hits with 1991's Dangerous, but he also front-loaded the album with six straight Teddy Riley-assisted cuts. This half-hour swoop of tense, aggressive, often angular funk was Jackson's most interesting music since Thriller, and still sounds, well, invincible on this remastered edition. After that, the record's uneven, but there's nothing embarrassing about it, either. "Gone Too Soon", a non-Jackson composition about teen AIDS casualty Ryan White, is a quiet statement (particularly played next to the choir-laden "Heal the World", "Keep the Faith", and "Will You Be There") showing that the star doesn't always have to get ...
Michael Jackson IS the King of Pop, 2009-06-30 First it is key to say that I am a huge fan so I may be somewhat biased, however, I can say that there are a few not so great tracks on here and you'll know which ones I mean when you listen to it. We all like to buy an album that we can just let run through but this one definitely needs a bit of pressure on the skip button. Having said that, there are a list of fantastic, unique and totally MJ tunes on here for example, Black or White (10/10); Will You Be There (one of the best MJ songs ever); Who is it (got a classic Michael spin on it and is beautiful); Keep The Faith (this one was not a single but is my favourite MJ song and is so unique and mind blowing). Slash appears on this album so if you like the sound of the guitar then maybe you'll say this is the best MJ album but as I'm more of a piano or vocal lass I'm not over thrilled with the electric tunes. I can recognise that this is a ground-breaking CD and worth every penny and more.
RIP MJJ

Michael Jackson
Like the Beatles and Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson is one of the handful of artists that can release an album of their number one singles. Number Ones includes his solo chart toppers in the UK and abroad from the period beginning with his Off the Wall album right up to the new song "One More Chance", a collaboration with R Kelly. The remaining 17 songs on the album are all classics drawn from the disco-soul Off the Wall, the funky Thriller, the good Bad, the safe Dangerous, the semi-best-of History and the weak Invincible. Regardless of whether the bulk of Number Ones has appeared on other greatest hits album...
A Celebration..., 2009-06-28 Now that he's gone, this is a good retrospective to listen to. It covers the range and enthusiasm of Michael Jackson's music. He was a one-off and a very talented individual. He will be remembered for his music above anything else - if there's anyone alive on the planet that doesn't at least tap their foot to 'Billie Jean', they're either deaf or dead. As an exuberant youngster, he made the Jackson 5 special and his solo career is unsurpassed in record sales (750 million albums at the last count). Was he influential? Oh yes, with disco, with music videos, with funk rock (I'm sure Prince owes him a nod or two), and with dance. He mainstreamed black music for white audiences along with Stevie Wonder. He made some great music and this disc contains many of the highlights - recommended.

Michael Jackson
Originally released in the US 25 years ago on November 30, 1982 by Epic Records, Thriller, Michael Jackson's sixth solo album and second with producer Quincy Jones, rocketed the former child-star and lead singer for the Jackson 5 into the stratosphere of international super-stardom. Introducing the "robot" and the "moonwalk" into the international lexicon of clubland dance moves via the pulsing sounds of Thriller, Michael Jackson revolutionised all aspects of mainstream pop culture--from radio airwaves to the newly emerg...
Indispensable, 2009-06-26 This genre of music isn't really the sort of stuff I go for and I turned my back on most of the popular music scene well over 30 years ago. But this particular album is just so terrific in every department that no collection should be without it. The songs, the arrangements, the supporting musicians, the playing, the recording and production ~ EVERYTHING is absolutely top notch. Oh yes, Jacko himself was at his absolute peak as well, delivering his vocal lines with unrivalled panache and confidence.
I find it difficult to believe that anyone needs to be reading a review of this album all this time after its original release. Unless you've been living on a desert island, how can you possibly not have heard it? Tragic that in his personal life he went progressively off the rails from this point on, but as a legacy of just what a phenomenal talent he was in his heyday, this album is arguably the biggest milestone ever in recorded popular music, eclipsing even Sgt. Pepper and Dark Side Of The Moon. Any collection without it is incomplete.

Michael Jackson's Thriller is the bestselling album of all time, with 45 million worldwide sales powered by eight Grammy Awards. The 1982 album was also a success from which the pop superstar never really recovered--subsequent albums seemed to have no other goal than to beat the records set by Thriller. The highly- polished sound of Quincy Jones's production sounds almost organic compared to Jackson's more recent work, and in the same regard, Thriller was significantly slicker than its predecessor, Off the Wall. Both albums established a Jackson style that aimed for the dance floor with songs built on a state-of-the-art bed of per...
